The UK faces a significant challenge in decarbonising homes and buildings. Retrofit is essential to achieving Net Zero, but the sector needs bold innovation to overcome barriers such as data gaps, consumer trust, and fragmented supply chains. That’s where the Energy System Catapult’s Retrofit Accelerator comes in.


The Retrofit Accelerator is an innovation programme designed to help UK-based SMEs scale breakthrough retrofit technologies and bring them to market faster. Led by Energy Systems Catapult, the programme connects high-potential businesses with leading construction firms and industry partners to address real-world challenges in domestic retrofit.


As a delivery partner, Ebico Innovation brings deep expertise in domestic energy systems, consumer behaviours, and early-stage investment in net zero solutions. Our long-standing commitment to tackling warm homes affordability ensures that selected innovations are not only technically sound but socially impactful.

About the programme

This initiative connects SMEs with leading industry partners – including WPS, EDF Energy, Leonard (Vinci), and the West Midlands Combined Authority to identify key pain points in the retrofit sector, with additional support and engagement from Ebico.
Successful applicants will receive:

  1. Catapult’s expert technical and business support to strengthen and de-risk trial propositions.
  2. Direct connections to major industry players and potential commercial partners.
  3. A bespoke business support programme, consisting of technical and commercial expertise
  4. Access to testbed facilities (such as our Living Lab – a network of 5000 real homes)

Who should apply?

If you’re an SME with presence in the UK and your innovation is at a TRL 6+ innovation ready for real-world testing, this is your opportunity to:

  • Co-develop trials with industry leaders.
  • Gain visibility in the UK’s Net Zero innovation ecosystem.
  • Access market customers, investors, and technical expertise.
